imported_peterigzParticipantWhen the images are displayed as white blocks like that, it generally means that your graphics card has run out of memory. Firstly I would check that you have the latest graphics drivers and upgrade them if necessary and see if that helps. Does the effect look like that in the preview window?
I just looked up the Dell 640m and see it has an intel GMA 950 integrated graphics which can be limiting. Are there any other programs running that might be using graphics memory?
imported_peterigzParticipantSome effect libraries just use more memory because of the particle shapes they use. Some particles are animated which can use more memory.
As for paint mode, I might just get rid of it, it’s just a little fun mode that doesn’t have much practical use, and uses an opengl mode that appears to create some problems on certain hardware.
imported_peterigzParticipantHello, I recently upgraded my Mac to Snow Leopard and everything is working fine on that, so it’s very strange that you’re experiencing these problems. The bubble stream doesn’t look like it should, as those bubbles should be floating upwards, is it smooth or very slow performance?
Can you try going into the animation properties of an effect (Edit menu -> animation controls) and see if you can see the effect OK in the animation dialogue?
Does it make any difference if you toggle Use Render Tweening from the preview menu, and does it make any difference if you select each update mode also under the preview menu?
imported_peterigzParticipantI’ve been experimenting a little with lava again, it’s quite hard to get it looking right though, I’m practising all the time! See what you think of these little efforts of flowing lava (don’t forget to see these properly you need to view each one in the animation properties window CTRL+A). I need to try and get a good particle shape to create those dark islands of lava as in your screen shot π
here’s a download link: http://www.rigzsoft.co.uk/files/lava.eff
imported_peterigzParticipantOk, thanks for the ideas NA π
imported_peterigzParticipantThanks for the feedback NA, there’s a few lava type textures in the Liquid Textures pack but I was never quite 100% happy with them. I’ve had a lot of practice with the editor since then though so I’ll have to have another go and see if I can come up few more seamless texture packs π
imported_peterigzParticipantNaughty_Alien, that looks great π
Regarding the 3d libraries, do you mean more libraries that have seamless animated effects, for textures and such?
Looking forward to playing a demo of this game!
imported_peterigzParticipantNo problem π
I manage all the IT at a small company near me.
More then I expected π
I’d would like to start getting into writing games more now, but I’ll always be updating TimelineFX. The next big edition (atleast from iPhone users point of view) will be exporting direct to PVRTC format, and i’d also like to add a few basic emitter templates within the editor so that new emitters can be built more quickly.
imported_peterigzParticipantAt the bottom of the preview window there is a count of particles that are in use and unused, for emitters that do not work does it show that there are any particles in use?
Could you give me the names of some emitters that do work, and some that don’t so that I can compare them to see if it’s any particular settings that might be causing it.
I’m running 10.5.8 OSX here, but I’m sure there are other users running leopard that haven’t reported any problems.
imported_peterigzParticipantHello, do they simply not show at all in the preview window? I tried the rain and snow effects here on my macbook and everything seems to be fine. It’s strange that some would work but others not.
Is the editor definitely not paused? Under Preview menu -> pause.
imported_peterigzParticipantJust uploaded a new version which hopefully fixes this! Thanks for the bug report. π
imported_peterigzParticipantOuch, that sucks, sorry about that!
I’ll see what’s going on and sort it.
imported_peterigzParticipantAhh yeah, I wondered why vaders started throwing that when I was testing something a few days ago. I think it’s because I removed a few imports from the timelinefx module. I was importing all 3 graphics drivers which is a bit pointless if you’re only going to use 1! I’ll try and update those demos for next update, cheers π
imported_peterigzParticipantJust uploaded version 1.19 which I hope will fix this. It was one of those bugs that seemed a bit elusive. I think I found the problem and couldn’t recreate the crash after implementing a fix so let’s hope it’s squished π
I had a few other big fixes too so was good timing for a little update.
imported_peterigzParticipantThanks Scott.
Just tried on the PC and cannot recreate the error, so will try on the Mac tomorrow (I’m guessing you work on Mac given your iPhone developement π )
