imported_peterigzParticipanthmm interesting! So it must be a problem when it loads the emitter, that some graphs aren’t being loaded properly for some reason. I think we’re getting closer!
imported_peterigzParticipantGreat, thanks for the description. It makes it a bit easier to isolate the problem on a single particle effect. It just sounds like it’s ignoring the fact that it has weight. The sinning of the particle sounds ok, as it’s set to spin randomly overtime, and the handle of the particle is offset so that it spirals round like that.
If you open up the bubble effect and click on the bubble emiiter, take a look at the weight and weight overtime graphs. The nodes on there should be on -167.5 and 1 respectively. Try moving them about and seeing what happens. You might have to double click on the preview window to see any changes.
imported_peterigzParticipantI’ve attached an effect which is very simple. It’s just a single bubble particle that *should* rise into the air. I’m interested to see what happens on your Mac. If it miss-behaves then I’ll probably upload a test version of TimelineFX that displays some extra info about what’s going on to help me debug.
Also, I think thitalianjob also tried this, but do you see any difference if you switch to precise mode: Preview Menu -> Update Mode -> Precise.
Thanks!
imported_peterigzParticipantThanks Vampyre, it’s certainly something interfering from the the editor then, hopefully I can narrow it down based on the effects that do and don’t work.
theitalianjob was the other guy in this thread, and it seems like exactly the same problem you both have.
Thanks for testing things out for me, will keep you posted. π
imported_peterigzParticipantHi Vampyre, haven’t forgotten about this one, but haven’t found anything yet, but I’ll definitely delve deeper this weekend.
Your list of effects that work and ones that don’t that you emailed me helps as I can narrow down what might be causing it, but so far nothing obvious is standing out.
Have you tried the vaders game on this site? if you could try and let me know if it all the effects work ok that would be great. And also you could try loading the effect library it uses into the editor seeing what works and what doesn’t that would be interesting. I guess that would point to something with the GUI that’s affecting it. I think it worked ok for theitalianjob.
you can download vaders here here: http://www.rigzsoft.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=44&Itemid=25
Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this!
imported_peterigzParticipantThanks, glad you find it useful π
Yes, I should get around to making more video tutorials, hopefully I’ll find some time soon!
imported_peterigzParticipantI should be able to add TGA no problem π
imported_peterigzParticipantNo problem giz. Your game looks great! You could put some more pics on the showcase forum π
I just made a new update to version 1.25 just to clean up some bits from the previous version. I didn’t manage transparency on gifs as the results just weren’t very good. But I did introduce the ability to change the background colour of the animation to anything you want, so you can at least match the background colour you’re putting the gif onto. I think this is the best you can hope for from gifs really.
Here’s all the changes:
* Export options within the animation controls are now remembered for each effect
* Stopped the effect preview window from opening even though cancel is pressed
* You can now preview the rendered effect whether or not it’s seamless.
* Greyscale export now correctly exports according to Rec. 709 standards
* You can now change the background colour of animations to anything you want. Select Chose Colour from the pop up menu.
* The effect preview window for the animation dialog is now modal. If you want to make changes you have to close it first, not 100% ideal but atleast the export options are now remembered.
imported_peterigzParticipantAhh right, ok. Well we’ll see what I can turn up.
imported_peterigzParticipantI use use a library called freeimage to create the gifs, so I’ll have to take a look at the docs more closely. First I have to quantize the the animation into an 8bit colour palette, which can only be done with 24bit images, ie., images without transparency. I assume you’re looking to add the gifs to a web site? unfortunately gifs don’t have great transparency anyway as it’s only really a mask, rather then true transparency like PNGs so I’m not even sure how good it would look anyway, but I’ll keep looking. Might be really simple! π
imported_peterigzParticipantAt the moment gif’s are saved without transparency, and maybe the best I could do would be to add an option to be able to change the background colour to anything your want. If you change the background to white, then it will save onto a white background.
imported_peterigzParticipantThanks, I’ll sort those issues out in due course π
imported_peterigzParticipantNow far off now, just a bit more testing π
imported_peterigzParticipantLooks really cool π
Which particle shape did you use? It seems to work really well.
imported_peterigzParticipantThat makes it a lot clearer, thanks π
