Home › Forums › TimelineFX Editor › Transparency on png export of animation
Hi Pete,
I just purchased your TimelineFX Editor, and it is a great start. Thanks for creating this.
I was using a competitive product which lacked in some important features which you are already covering, and I don’t see much activity related to ongoing development of that other product, hence why I am trying yours.
Anyway, I have encountered one small issue, which may be between the chair and the keyboard 😉
The problem is when I export an animation as .png, and select to use transparency, the resulting file only has transparency on frame0
The others seem to have a black background in all cases I have tried.
Is this a known issue, or is there another setting somewhere I have missed to fix this?
Thanks,
Dave
Hi aonyn, I’ve yet to come across this problem so far, what are your PC specs?
I am using:
Windows XP SP3
P4 3.2GHz hyperthreading
3 Gig of Ram
Geforce 8600GT w/ 512 Meg vRam
If you need anything more specific, let me know and I will get it for you.
Thanks,
Dave
ok, nothing “dodgy” about those specs 🙂 It’s been a while since I tested on my old p3 geforce 3 setup, will double check all is well on there. Do you have the latest GFX drivers and what-not?
Also, could you export a small 4 frame animation and attach it to the thread, see if there’s any clues in there? Thanks!
I will export an animation and upload it in a few minutes, just need to adjust and re-export for 4 frames.
I can tell you immediately something else I have noticed though.
The issue only occurs with full color .png and transparency.
It works correctly with greyscale + alpha and 1color + alpha.
samples coming soon
Thanks
Here are sample animation outputs, attached to this post.
Notice the color image has the problem I described, and the 1 color and grey images are ok.
Also, here is the effect file.

Thanks again.
Also, my gfx drivers are not terribly old, within 2-3 months.
That said, I will download the newest release now and will post to let you know if anything changes.
Thanks for the examples. Very strange that it only does it for full colour, as it’s not really doing anything different. I’ll take a closer look at it tomorrow.
Thanks Peter,
Just one additional note, I have had this same issue with my own effects, as well as the sample effects.
It is not an isolated issue to this one effect file.
Thank you again for your help with this.
regards,
Dave
Ok, I created a small test program which you’ll find attached, just extract and run the bmx file and it should create a test.png consisting of 4 frames of animation. It uses the exactly same routines as the editor so let’s see if we can recreate the problem on a smaller scale.
I assume .bmx is a blitzmax file.
I am downloading the blitzmax demo to see if it will allow me to compile and run this.
Problem is, I am actually a blitz3d sdk for Purebasic guy.
Anyway, I will be back shortly to let you know if I am successful.
Thanks,
Dave
ahh ok, I didn’t think that you might not have blitmax 😳 I’ll compile it into an executable for you.
ok, here we go, this one contains an exe, just run that and a test.png file should appear, let me know if some frames lack alpha.
Hi Pete,
Thanks, I was able to use both versions, and both worked correctly.
All frames had alpha.
regards,
Dave
Ok thanks, now I’ve just got to figure out what the difference is between that and the editor 😕 🙂 Will let you know as soon as I find something.
