theitalianjobParticipantHi,
On mac (imac quad core on ati radeon 4850 and on MackBook pro on invidia) some emitters (all rain, snow…) effects doesn’t work.
June 3, 2010 at 5:55 pm #3625
imported_peterigzParticipantHello, do they simply not show at all in the preview window? I tried the rain and snow effects here on my macbook and everything seems to be fine. It’s strange that some would work but others not.
Is the editor definitely not paused? Under Preview menu -> pause.
June 5, 2010 at 8:00 am #3626
theitalianjobParticipantThe pause is off…
50% of emitters o not work on mac…
Snow leopard compatibility?

imported_peterigzParticipantAt the bottom of the preview window there is a count of particles that are in use and unused, for emitters that do not work does it show that there are any particles in use?
Could you give me the names of some emitters that do work, and some that don’t so that I can compare them to see if it’s any particular settings that might be causing it.
I’m running 10.5.8 OSX here, but I’m sure there are other users running leopard that haven’t reported any problems.

theitalianjobParticipantAfter the last update 1.2.1 nothing work on leopard.
In attach two screenshots of my mac…. (only bouble emitter work but bad)

imported_peterigzParticipantHello, I recently upgraded my Mac to Snow Leopard and everything is working fine on that, so it’s very strange that you’re experiencing these problems. The bubble stream doesn’t look like it should, as those bubbles should be floating upwards, is it smooth or very slow performance?
Can you try going into the animation properties of an effect (Edit menu -> animation controls) and see if you can see the effect OK in the animation dialogue?
Does it make any difference if you toggle Use Render Tweening from the preview menu, and does it make any difference if you select each update mode also under the preview menu?

– I don’t see nothing 🙁

– I tried all options but I don’t see differences 🙁

imported_peterigzParticipantHave you tried other effects libraries too? Do you get similar results with all libraries? Try downloading the environment effects file again, maybe there was a problem with the file.
Also you could try this: On this site is a small game that uses timelinefx for the particles, try downloading and running it and see if you have problems with that, the direct link is here: http://www.rigzsoft.co.uk/files/Vadersmac.zip If that works fine then at least we know there’s nothing wrong with the opengl drivers in general. I’m starting to suspect that there’s something wrong with your environment.eff file though, as you say the problem is the same on 2 macs with different hardware. But then I guess that would mean you downloaded a bad file 2 times for each PC. Hmm this is very puzzling!

theitalianjobParticipantAll libraries have problem….
I tried to download all libraries… on window (in parallels desktop) the libraries works fine the same library on mac don’t work…
On mac the game downloaded work fine….
It’s very strange 🙁

imported_peterigzParticipantIt is very strange! Very hard to diagnose when I can’t recreate here. It’s even stranger that it happens on both your Macs. Is there something common on both macs that might be running in the background, that might be interfering or something do you think?
I’ll do some more googling and see if I come up with anything.

VampyreParticipantReopening this old thread, as I’m experiencing the very same problems on the Mac with the last version 1.25
Already mailed about it to Peter, but after having sent my configuration, any news since, and I’m just coming to see if anything new had poped up on your side Peter.
Thanks
Vampyre

imported_peterigzParticipantHi Vampyre, haven’t forgotten about this one, but haven’t found anything yet, but I’ll definitely delve deeper this weekend.
Your list of effects that work and ones that don’t that you emailed me helps as I can narrow down what might be causing it, but so far nothing obvious is standing out.
Have you tried the vaders game on this site? if you could try and let me know if it all the effects work ok that would be great. And also you could try loading the effect library it uses into the editor seeing what works and what doesn’t that would be interesting. I guess that would point to something with the GUI that’s affecting it. I think it worked ok for theitalianjob.
you can download vaders here here: http://www.rigzsoft.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=44&Itemid=25
Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this!

VampyreParticipantThanks Peter 🙂
Yeap, I had already tried Vaders. It works perfectly without a single glitch at around 2000 fps (quite blowing seeing such a number :p)
I’m going to check now to see what library it uses and see if I can build you the same list as I already did 🙂 Keep you updated.
Edit :
I actually tried another pack, which sounded quite it could have been used : the ShootEmUp Effects.
Here is the result
working all right :
– Power Up 1
– Power Up 2
– ShieldHit (seems to work, but is kind of weird : just a green glow cropping and fading out quite fast
– Hit (very quick to say if it’s the normal way to see it. Seems like an orange glow)
– Bullet 4
– Laser 1, 2 and 3
– Smoke trail
– Fire and Smoke
– Burst of smoke
– Something Damaged and 2
– Charge up 1, 2 and 3
– Quick implode
– Bigger explosion 2
– The 3 deep space explosionsWhat’s not working
– Simple explosion 1, 2 and 3
– Bigger explosion 1
– Thusters 1, 2, 3, and simple thruster
– Bullet 1, 2, 3
– Shield with electric
– Shield
– Blast wave anim makerI’m now going to check your link you gave me, and see what it does 🙂
About Vaders now. The game in itself works properly, as mentionned before. All the effects are in the game, so I’m not sure at all about a bad download there, as the effects are fine in the game. But with the effects loaded into the editor, here are the results :
Working :
– player bullet
– Vader bullet
– Vader bullet anim
– damage
– power up
– player bullet anim
– got power upnot working :
– simple explosion 1, 2 and player explosion
– background
– titleWhat’s weird, is that in the game, I’m having those effects (blue gradient background, shining effect behind the title, and all the explosion when I die, or when I shoot the enemies.). So definitely something with the editor, and only in some cases, and not with the libraries… Hope this help a little bit…
But I didn’t got it with italianjob you were refering to… :s

imported_peterigzParticipantThanks Vampyre, it’s certainly something interfering from the the editor then, hopefully I can narrow it down based on the effects that do and don’t work.
theitalianjob was the other guy in this thread, and it seems like exactly the same problem you both have.
Thanks for testing things out for me, will keep you posted. 🙂

imported_peterigzParticipantI’ve attached an effect which is very simple. It’s just a single bubble particle that *should* rise into the air. I’m interested to see what happens on your Mac. If it miss-behaves then I’ll probably upload a test version of TimelineFX that displays some extra info about what’s going on to help me debug.
Also, I think thitalianjob also tried this, but do you see any difference if you switch to precise mode: Preview Menu -> Update Mode -> Precise.
Thanks!
