Hi,
I’m trying out TimelineFX and I’m not sure if I’m up against a limitation of the software or just not understanding how to achieve my desired result. I want to create an effect where two lines with trailing particles pass through each other. An example would be two of the Data Fall emitters with one going down and one up. The animation would then loop so that the lines appear to cross back and forth endlessly.
My first thought was to simply combine two emitters/effects, but TimelineFX doesn’t seem to support composition of effects. Is there some other way to do what I want (other than compositing the animation outside of TimelineFX)?
This is definitely possible by using 2 sub effects. I’ll try and upload a sample tonight at some point. I think 1 or 2 of the light show emitters do something similar.
An example would be good or a pointer to a tutorial that covers this sort of thing. I’ve looked at the light show emitters and I can see some with two sub-effects but it’s not obvious how they were constructed.
I’ve attached a file of what I think you’re after.
Basically it’s got 2 emitters, with single one shot particles that have velocities set in opposite directions. These each contain a sub effect of the data fall effects. I modified these so that the handle (on the effects tab) is set so one is at -100 the other 100 so they travel towards each other and cross in the middle. Hope this gives you a few ideas!
Thanks for this. I’ll take a look when I get the chance. I’m sure I’ll have more questions.
